Ochratoxin-A induced pathological changes in broiler chicks
Main Article Content
Abstract
Study was carried out on clinico-biochemical profile, where much of the pathological alterations were noted in different parameters under the influence of inoculation of OTA through subcutaneous route. Study was conducted on 36, broiler chicks of a day old, which were kept in 6 groups (A, B, C, D, E and F), these all were treatment groups except group A, which was control. OTA was given through subcutaneous route @ B(0.1mg/kg), C (0.5mg/kg), D(0.9mg/kg), E(1.3mg/kg) and F(1.7mg/kg). A subjective scoring of gross pathological changes and clinical signs on different visceral organs was carried out. The concentrations of ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, urea, triglycerides, uric acid and creatinine, were elevated (p<0.05) in relation to control. Similarly, the level of serum total protein and glucose were reduced (p<0.05) in chicks under study while comparing it to control. Necropsy of the chicks revealed hemorrhagic areas on thighs, hemorrhages areas in kidneys and on liver, alteration of the color of organs was noted in OTA treated groups. Alteration in feed conversion ratios. Body weight and feed intake were also observed OTA treated groups in comparison to control. This indicates that irrespective of route of entry of OTA, different changes were observed in serum biochemistry, gross changes in visceral organs and on body weight and feed intake.
