Sero-prevalence of anti-HCV antibodies among the blood donors of District Bajaur, KP, Pakistan

Abstract
Hepatitis C is a viral disease that poses serious threat to the human population around the globe. This research was conducted for investigation of prevalence of anti HCV anti bodies among the blood donor of District Bajaur, Pakistan. The study was aimed to determine local prevalence of anti-HCV antibodies and factors responsible for the transmission of HCV in the local population of District Bajaur. About 756 study participants were investigated from April, 2023 to August, 2023, among which 15 individuals were tested as positive. The sero-prevalence of anti HCV antibodies was 2%. The sero-prevalence were determined in relation to different demographic factors. The sero-prevalence was 2% in male, 0% in female and 3.65% in age group (31-40 years). The individuals with blood group AB+ive showed, 3.7% sero-prevalence of anti-HCV antibodies. To overcome the infections of HCV in Bajaur, Pakistan continuous screening and surveillance is required.
